I ran across this Ron Finley presentation on a blog that I follow from time to time. Ron totally changed my mind on where a garden can be planted and how much land is needed for a garden. Check out his presentation below. Let me know what you think.
Yes, I have a farming guru and his name is Joel Salatin. No, I don't own a farm but our backyard is becoming one. After doing some research and reading some blogs, I can across a self described lunatic farmer. He just makes sense and doesn't believe in or trust our current commercial food system. If I had a real farm, I'd probably do things similar to Joel.
This video from the UC Berkeley school of Journalism is just great. Yeah, it's an hour and half long but Joel is worth it. I find him funny and smart and I would love to see him speak in person. If you want a shorter run down on what Joel is about check out the video below.
Some friends of ours wanted to go hiking in RMNP during the long fourth of July weekend. We ended up trying a new location that was burned by a late season fire last year. The smell of burned wood was still in the air while walking through the trees but the flatter areas were exploding with new life. The grass was really high and the wild flowers were just starting to pop up. It was a pretty amazing place and I can't wait to go back.
This also happened to be our son's first hike in RMNP. He was a great sport but was done before we made it back to the car. To keep him entertained I showed him how to use the bite valve on my CamelBak. Once he got the hang of it, that kept him busy until we reached the car.
I set out Saturday morning trying to finish what I started Friday night for the multi-color day of color week. On my way to my photo location, I happened upon some horses. I realized that they would make a better subject for the day than what I had envisioned. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
I had big plans for multi-colored day in color week. Big plans ended quickly with a much needed evening thunder storm. Maybe I'll add to this post tomorrow.
Hello Strangers! By strangers I mean me. I'm back and giving blogging another go thanks to Simplyblythe and her color week for the first full week of summer. Each day this week I will be photographing the world around me showcasing the day's selected color.
